In continuation of my Despatch No. 118 of the
7th. ultimo, I have the honour to inform you that up to date the following is the tale of those who have been shot, executed, or arrested in connection with the piracy of the S. S. "Tai On".
1 man shot by Chinese soldiers near Nam T'au.
5 men arrested on the same occasion and executed at
Canton.
3 men arrested by Chinese Authorities and now under trial
at Canton.
1 man arrested in this Colony and at present under trial.
6 men arrested in Hongkong and banished, the evidence
against them being incomplete.
1 man arrested in Hongkong whose banishment is under
consideration.

The plot for this crime was laid in Hongkong, where the men who perpetrated it were quietly collected. The arma, which were collected partly in Hongkong and partly in China, were smuggled on board the "Tai On" concealed in the seats of two chairs upholstered in European style. These were placed in a first class cabin, next the Captain's, on the upper deck which was engaged and occupied by the leader of the gang which boarded the steamer.
3. The Police are in possession of incontestable proof that the ringleader who laid the plot and made all the
